Got questions? You’re not the only one! Here are some of the things we get asked the most. If you still need help, just give us a call — we’re a friendly bunch.
You’ll need your full UK photo driving licence, your National Insurance number or DVLA Check Code (so we can check your licence online), and two proofs of address dated within the last 3 months (e.g. bank statement, council tax bill, utility bill). Don’t worry — if your bills are digital, you can show us on your phone. We will take a pic of your proofs on address for our records.
Yes, we take a £150 deposit for all hires. You can pay by cash or card, but please note card deposits can take up to 3 working days to show back in your account after the hire ends.
You can pay your deposit in cash, but the main hire charge must be paid using a physical debit or credit card — not contactless. We need the card to be inserted so we can process refunds if needed.
Yes — it’s £15 per additional driver. Each driver will need to come into the office in person to show ID, sign the paperwork, and give us their National Insurance number so we can run a licence check.
Yes! We’ve got an easy drop-off system. Just park in our customer car park (don’t block the entrance or other vehicles), and pop the keys in the secure drop box next to the office door.
No — all vehicles need to be collected from and returned to our depot at 19 Underwood Road, Paisley.
Simple — return the van with the same amount of fuel it had when you collected it. Fuel isn’t included in the hire price. We charge a £5 service surcharge on top of the fuel cost for vehicles which haven’t been filled up.

If you take the CDW, your excess drops to:
Important: You are liable for any damage done to the vehicle while it’s in your care — whether it’s your fault or not. That includes everything from scrapes and dents to tyre and windscreen damage.
Yes! We’ve got a customer car park you can use during your hire. Just ask us where to park when you arrive.
Absolutely. We offer great rates on long-term van hire — whether it’s for your business or a big project. Give us a call and let us know how long you need it, whether it’ll be on your insurance or ours, and roughly how many miles you'll be doing.
Yes, we’re happy to extend your hire if the van’s available — just please let us know as early as you can. We often have bookings lined up, so if you're going to be late or need extra time, it’s really important to give us a quick call. That way, we can check availability and avoid letting down the next customer. We’ll always do our best to help — just keep us in the loop!
Yes — many business customers do. If you're booking on your own insurance, we’ll need a copy of your motor insurance certificate, and it must clearly state you're covered for self-drive hire. Your insurer will also need to send us a cover note for the specific hire dates showing the vehicle registration (we will provide this in advance) and stating that A.K. Vehicle Rental is the owner of the vehicle. If in doubt, just give us a ring and we’ll talk you through it.
Yes, but only if you’re insuring the van yourself. Let us know in advance so we can make sure the right van is ready for you.
Yes! We’ve got electric vans available, which are automatics too. Just ask when booking if that’s what you’re after. We don’t have any diesel automatics.
We do! Boxes, tape and bubble wrap — you’ll find it all in the office. Check our Packing Materials page for prices.
Yep — we’ve got trolleys for moving heavy stuff and Rug Doctor carpet cleaners for when your carpets need a deep clean. See our Additional Services page for details and pricing.
